How to add a watermark to a PDF
- Choose or drop the PDF.
- Type the watermark text and adjust colour, size, angle and opacity. The preview updates as you go.
- Select Add watermark and download.
Any language, any script
The watermark is drawn with your system's fonts, so it works in every language, including Arabic, Kurdish, Chinese and emoji, and it looks the same in every PDF reader.
Single or tiled
A single watermark sits in the middle of each page. Tiled repeats it across the page, which makes it much harder to crop out of screenshots.
Questions about Watermark PDF
Are my files uploaded when I watermark a PDF?
No. Scissor PDF runs a PDF engine written in Rust and compiled to WebAssembly inside your browser tab. Your files are read from your disk into the page's memory, processed there and saved back to your device. The site has no upload endpoint, and its Content Security Policy blocks the page from sending data to any other server.
Can the watermark be removed?
It is drawn into each page as an image layer. Someone with PDF editing software could still remove it, so for documents that must not be altered, also use Protect PDF.
Will the watermark hide my text?
Not if you keep opacity low. 15 to 30 percent keeps the document readable while the mark stays clearly visible.
Is it free? Do I need an account?
It is free, with no account, no daily task limit and no watermark added to your documents. Because the work happens on your own computer, there is no server cost per file for us to recover.
