- Draw white boxes over the parts you want to cover, on any page. Drag and resize them to fit.
- Select Save whiteout and download the result.
Like correction tape
Each box covers what is under it with plain white, so the page looks blank in that spot. You can then add new text there with Add text to PDF, or print the page and write on it.
Whiteout is not redaction
Whiteout only covers content visually. The text underneath is still in the file and can be copied, searched or recovered. To permanently remove names, numbers or other sensitive information, use Redact PDF instead.
Questions about Whiteout PDF
Are my files uploaded when I white out a PDF?
No. Scissor PDF runs a PDF engine written in Rust and compiled to WebAssembly inside your browser tab. Your files are read from your disk into the page's memory, processed there and saved back to your device. The site has no upload endpoint, and its Content Security Policy blocks the page from sending data to any other server.
Is the covered text removed from the file?
No. It is hidden from view but still in the file, where it can be copied or found by search. Use Redact PDF to remove sensitive information for good.
Can I type new text over the white box?
Yes. Save the whiteout, then open the result in Add text to PDF and type in the blank space.
Does it work on scanned documents?
Yes. The white boxes cover whatever is in that area, whether it is text or part of a scanned image.
Is it free? Do I need an account?
It is free, with no account, no daily task limit and no watermark added to your documents. Because the work happens on your own computer, there is no server cost per file for us to recover.
