How to add margins to a PDF

  1. Choose or drop the PDF.
  2. Type the margin width in millimetres.
  3. Select Add margins and download the result.

The page grows, the content does not shrink

The border is added outside the existing page, so the page becomes larger and text and images stay exactly the same size. Nothing is scaled or re-rendered.

Common uses

A margin keeps text clear of the binding or punch holes, gives space for handwritten comments when marking papers, and helps when a document runs too close to the edge for your printer.

Questions about Add margins to PDF

Are my files uploaded when I add margins to a PDF?

No. Scissor PDF runs a PDF engine written in Rust and compiled to WebAssembly inside your browser tab. Your files are read from your disk into the page's memory, processed there and saved back to your device. The site has no upload endpoint, and its Content Security Policy blocks the page from sending data to any other server.

Will my content be made smaller?

No. The page gets larger and the content keeps its size.

What unit is the margin?

Millimetres. The same width is added around every page.

I need the pages to stay A4. What can I do?

Add the margins, then use Resize PDF to scale the pages back to A4.

Is it free? Do I need an account?

It is free, with no account, no daily task limit and no watermark added to your documents. Because the work happens on your own computer, there is no server cost per file for us to recover.
