How to split a PDF by file size
- Choose or drop the PDF.
- Type the maximum size for each part, for example 5 MB.
- Select Split by size and download the parts as a ZIP.
Pages stay whole
Parts are made of complete pages, in order, and each part stays under the size you choose. A single page that is larger than the limit on its own becomes its own part, because a page cannot be divided.
Try compressing first
If you would rather send one file, Compress PDF may bring it under the limit. You can also compress first and split afterwards to get fewer parts.
Questions about Split PDF by size
Are my files uploaded when I split a PDF by size?
No. Scissor PDF runs a PDF engine written in Rust and compiled to WebAssembly inside your browser tab. Your files are read from your disk into the page's memory, processed there and saved back to your device. The site has no upload endpoint, and its Content Security Policy blocks the page from sending data to any other server.
Why is one part bigger than my limit?
That part holds a single page that is larger than the limit by itself. Pages are never split.
How do I get the parts?
All parts download together in one ZIP file.
Can I split by page numbers instead?
Yes, use Split PDF to divide a document by page ranges.
Is it free? Do I need an account?
It is free, with no account, no daily task limit and no watermark added to your documents. Because the work happens on your own computer, there is no server cost per file for us to recover.
