How to remove images from a PDF

  1. Choose or drop the PDF.
  2. Select Remove images.
  3. Download the text-only version.

What stays

Text and vector graphics, such as lines, tables, charts and many logos, are kept. Only images like photos and pictures are removed. Text remains selectable and searchable.

When it helps

Images are often most of a PDF's size, so removing them can make the file much smaller. It also saves ink when you print reading material, manuals or articles. For a scanned document, where every page is an image, the pages will be left empty.

Questions about Remove images from PDF

Are my files uploaded when I remove images from a PDF?

No. Scissor PDF runs a PDF engine written in Rust and compiled to WebAssembly inside your browser tab. Your files are read from your disk into the page's memory, processed there and saved back to your device. The site has no upload endpoint, and its Content Security Policy blocks the page from sending data to any other server.

Will the text be affected?

No. Text and vector graphics are kept as they are.

Why are my pages empty after removing images?

The PDF is probably a scan, where each page is an image. There is no separate text to keep.

I want a smaller file but keep the photos.

Use Compress PDF, which reduces image size instead of removing images.

Is it free? Do I need an account?

It is free, with no account, no daily task limit and no watermark added to your documents. Because the work happens on your own computer, there is no server cost per file for us to recover.
