How to remove annotations from a PDF
- Choose or drop the PDF.
- Choose whether to keep links.
- Select Remove annotations and download the clean copy.
What is removed
Comments, highlights, sticky notes, stamps and drawings are deleted. Links can be kept if you choose. Form fields are always kept, so a fillable form stays fillable.
The page itself is unchanged
Only annotations are removed. Text, images and anything that is part of the page content stay as they are. Markup that has been flattened into the page is no longer an annotation, so it is not removed.
Questions about Remove annotations
Are my files uploaded when I remove annotations?
No. Scissor PDF runs a PDF engine written in Rust and compiled to WebAssembly inside your browser tab. Your files are read from your disk into the page's memory, processed there and saved back to your device. The site has no upload endpoint, and its Content Security Policy blocks the page from sending data to any other server.
Will my form fields be removed?
No. Form fields are kept.
Can I keep the links?
Yes. Choose to keep links and they stay clickable.
Why is a highlight still there?
It is probably part of the page content rather than an annotation, for example because the file was flattened. Those cannot be removed this way.
Is it free? Do I need an account?
It is free, with no account, no daily task limit and no watermark added to your documents. Because the work happens on your own computer, there is no server cost per file for us to recover.
