How to add page numbers to a PDF
- Choose or drop the PDF.
- Pick a position, a format such as "1" or "Page 1 of 12", the first page to number and the starting number.
- Select Add page numbers and download.
Works with rotated and mixed-size pages
Numbers are placed on the edge you actually see, so landscape and rotated pages are numbered the right way up, and mixed paper sizes each get correctly positioned numbers.
Skip the cover page
Set "Start on page" to 2 to leave a cover unnumbered, and set the starting number to 1 so numbering begins on the first page of content.
Questions about Page numbers
Are my files uploaded when I add page numbers?
No. Scissor PDF runs a PDF engine written in Rust and compiled to WebAssembly inside your browser tab. Your files are read from your disk into the page's memory, processed there and saved back to your device. The site has no upload endpoint, and its Content Security Policy blocks the page from sending data to any other server.
Can I use "Page X of Y"?
Yes. Choose the "Page 1 of 12" format. The total counts only the pages that receive a number.
Which font is used?
Helvetica, a standard PDF font every reader can display, in dark grey at the size you pick.
Is it free? Do I need an account?
It is free, with no account, no daily task limit and no watermark added to your documents. Because the work happens on your own computer, there is no server cost per file for us to recover.
