How to repair a PDF
- Choose or drop the damaged PDF.
- Select Repair PDF.
- Download the rebuilt file and open it.
What can be fixed
Most PDFs that fail to open have a broken index, often because a download or email attachment was cut off or the file was edited by faulty software. Scissor PDF scans the whole file for its pages and content, rebuilds the index and the page list, and writes a clean, standard PDF.
What cannot be fixed
If parts of the file are missing, for example the second half of an interrupted download, the missing pages cannot be recovered. Encrypted files need their password first: use Unlock PDF.
Questions about Repair PDF
Are my files uploaded when I repair a PDF?
No. Scissor PDF runs a PDF engine written in Rust and compiled to WebAssembly inside your browser tab. Your files are read from your disk into the page's memory, processed there and saved back to your device. The site has no upload endpoint, and its Content Security Policy blocks the page from sending data to any other server.
How do I know if it worked?
The result screen appears with a download if pages could be recovered. Open the new file to check it. If no pages can be found, you will see a message instead.
Is repairing safe for the original file?
Yes. The original file on your device is never changed; you download a new, repaired copy.
Is it free? Do I need an account?
It is free, with no account, no daily task limit and no watermark added to your documents. Because the work happens on your own computer, there is no server cost per file for us to recover.
