How to compare two PDFs

  1. Choose or drop the original PDF and the changed PDF.
  2. Select Compare PDFs.
  3. Go through the pages. Added and removed words are highlighted.

Text, page by page

The text of the two files is compared page by page, and words that were added or removed are highlighted. It suits documents where wording matters, such as contracts, terms, specifications and manuscripts.

Limits

Only text is compared, not images, formatting or layout. Scanned PDFs that contain only pictures of pages have no text layer, so they cannot be compared.

Questions about Compare PDF

Are my files uploaded when I compare PDFs?

No. Scissor PDF runs a PDF engine written in Rust and compiled to WebAssembly inside your browser tab. Your files are read from your disk into the page's memory, processed there and saved back to your device. The site has no upload endpoint, and its Content Security Policy blocks the page from sending data to any other server.

Does it compare images or formatting?

No. Only the text is compared.

Why does my scanned PDF show no differences?

A scan has no text layer, so there is nothing to compare. Scissor PDF does not perform OCR.

Is it safe for confidential contracts?

Yes. Both files are compared inside your browser and never leave your device.

Is it free? Do I need an account?

It is free, with no account, no daily task limit and no watermark added to your documents. Because the work happens on your own computer, there is no server cost per file for us to recover.
