How to highlight a PDF

  1. Choose or drop the PDF.
  2. Pick yellow, green or pink, and draw highlight boxes over text on any page.
  3. Select Save highlights and download the result.

Three colours

Draw translucent boxes in yellow, green or pink over the text you want to mark. Use different colours to separate topics, or questions from answers.

Part of the page

The highlights become part of the page, not separate comments. They look the same in every reader and when printed, but cannot be removed with an annotation tool later. Keep your original if you might want a clean copy.

Questions about Highlight PDF

Are my files uploaded when I highlight a PDF?

No. Scissor PDF runs a PDF engine written in Rust and compiled to WebAssembly inside your browser tab. Your files are read from your disk into the page's memory, processed there and saved back to your device. The site has no upload endpoint, and its Content Security Policy blocks the page from sending data to any other server.

Which colours can I use?

Yellow, green and pink.

Can I remove the highlights later?

Not from the saved file, because they are part of the page. Keep the original if you need an unmarked copy.

Will the text underneath still be readable?

Yes. Highlights are translucent, so the text shows through.

Is it free? Do I need an account?

It is free, with no account, no daily task limit and no watermark added to your documents. Because the work happens on your own computer, there is no server cost per file for us to recover.
