How to split a PDF

  1. Choose or drop the PDF you want to split.
  2. Pick how to split it: custom ranges such as 1-3, 4-10, a fixed number of pages per file, or every page on its own.
  3. Select Split PDF. You get one PDF, or a ZIP archive when the split produces several files.

Three ways to split

Custom ranges give you full control: type 1-5, 6-12, 13 to get three files. Fixed size cuts the document into parts of the same length, which is handy for scanned batches. Every page produces one PDF per page.

Split versus extract

Split divides the whole document into several files. To pull just a few pages out into one new file, Extract pages is quicker.

Questions about Split PDF

Are my files uploaded when I split a PDF?

No. Scissor PDF runs a PDF engine written in Rust and compiled to WebAssembly inside your browser tab. Your files are read from your disk into the page's memory, processed there and saved back to your device. The site has no upload endpoint, and its Content Security Policy blocks the page from sending data to any other server.

How do I write page ranges?

Separate ranges with commas. Use a hyphen for a range and a single number for one page, for example 1-3, 5, 8-12. Each range becomes its own PDF.

Why do I get a ZIP file?

When a split produces more than one PDF, they are packed into a single ZIP so you only download once. Every operating system opens ZIP files with a double-click.

Does splitting reduce quality?

No. Pages are copied as they are, without re-rendering, so text stays sharp and searchable and images are untouched.

Is it free? Do I need an account?

It is free, with no account, no daily task limit and no watermark added to your documents. Because the work happens on your own computer, there is no server cost per file for us to recover.
